Denise creates the background fabric using her own unique and lengthy process.
 
The process begins with a base of her own handmade paper, made from recycled material which she colours with paints and dyes.
 
7-8 separate layers of raw linen, jute and silk fibres are individually painted, dyed and stitched to the base, giving the subtle depth of colour so unique to her work.
 
Textured handmade paper and fabric images are applied with stitch.
 
Inventive machine embroidery adds further embellishment with words, poetry or music to add details of personal significance.
 
‘Found' materials such as stones are added where appropriate, to give each piece a history.
